1-Month-Old Baby Activities

It's crazy how quickly a newborn baby changes from the moment they come into the world and then day by day. After a month, your baby may have just started to smile. It is much more aware of its surroundings and continues to develop its vision, hearing and movements.

This wonderful age is the perfect time to start some activities for 1-month babies to stimulate their senses and encourage their development.

Make a sensory box

Making a sensory box for your baby and using it a few times a week is a great way to stimulate their senses. Babies are stimulated from an early age by black and white objects and prints. Strong black and white patterns also help babies develop their attention and concentration skills. You might want to include some prints and a book to read aloud.

Now that we have covered sight, let's move on to touch. Textured objects are great for encouraging baby's fine motor skills. This could be tinfoil, velvet, a bowl of water to dip their fingers in or a soft blanket. As they get older, they can use their own curiosity and skills to dig into a sensory box. But for now, you can take the items in your hand and let your baby handle them.

Next, we need to move on to sounds! Put a rattle in it, play a soft musical instrument or even play him some lullabies or baby songs on your phone.

A sensory box not only encourages development but can also help to calm your child. Sensory boxes are used by older children and adults who have difficulty controlling their emotions and behaviour, as stopping to focus only on the most important senses has an incredibly calming effect.

Gently move baby's legs

Gently moving your baby's legs like a bicycle is an incredibly simple and easy way to encourage movement, learning and play. The same goes for gently clapping baby's hands together (crossed, stretched out wide or overhead).

Talk to your baby and let him respond

Okay, right now you might only hear a little gurgle, but talking to your baby is key to developing your baby's fine motor skills. Your voice will accompany your child throughout their infancy and is a reassuring, safe environment for them. Talking to your baby keeps him calm, soothes him and helps him develop.

Read to your baby

Even if your baby is not quite ready to learn to read and understand everything around him, encouraging your baby to read to you at a young age is a great thing to do. This gets them into a routine at a young age, calms them down and you have a fantastic, personal time with your baby to boot.

Remember that all babies develop at different ages and this is perfectly normal. These activities for one-month-old babies encourage your baby's development, play and bonding with you.
