The months have flown by and the time of delivery is getting closer and closer.
Presumed date of birth, check-ups, lunar phase... it is impossible to establish with certainty the date and time of that long-awaited moment.
What do you do when a date is uncertain? You prepare in advance.
Not too far in advance, but you should start thinking about your hospital bag from the 33rd week. Even if you give birth pre-term, you will need certain things just as you would for a full-term birth. Specifically, I'm thinking of everything that concerns you, mum: pajamas, sanitary towels, make-up, for example.
Due date? The 37th week.
Consider that, as a rule, you stay in hospital 3 days for a natural birth and 5 days for a cesarean section. If you already know that your baby will be born by cesarean section, plan for a few extra changes.
I suggest packing 3 bags: one bag for the mother, one bag for the baby, and one bag for the person who will be assisting you during the birth.
Each hospital provides a list of essential things to bring, others are taken for granted. So that you don't forget anything, let's check them together.
When packing your hospital bag for you, the mother-to-be, think of three distinct moments: labor, hospitalization, and return home.
LABOR
Pack a comfortable dress (shirt or sweater) for the birth, a hair tie if necessary, and water/snacks.
STAY
You will need a comfortable beauty to take to the bathroom, which you will probably share with your roommate. Inside is a hand and body/hair cleanser, toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, comb and rubber bands, creams, and chapstick.
In your bag, put all your documents and papers for the birth, mobile phone charger, nightdress/clothes, underwear, dressing gown, slippers, socks, vests, and a nursing bra.
Don't forget towels and a hairdryer! (the hospital is not a hotel 😉)
Mesh panties, post-partum pads, paper towels, and a bag for dirty laundry will complete everything.
GOING HOME
Prepare the clothes and underwear you will want to wear for the journey home. Your breasts may be more swollen and your stomach less so chooses soft, comfortable clothes.
THE HANDBAG FOR YOUR COMPANION
A small bag for those accompanying you will be a very welcome gesture of care, put some water, a snack, the phone charger, some tissues, some fresh wipes, deodorant, and a spare shirt.
Prepare 4/5 bodysuits with long or short sleeves depending on the season, 4/5 babygrows, 3 socks, 2 caps, a blanket, two bibs, and a change of clothes for when you get home.
Babies' skin is also protected by the fabrics we choose to cover their skin with! To prevent dermatitis and irritation, it is important to choose quality raw materials and avoid synthetic fabrics.
So remember to choose natural and delicate fibres to protect your baby's skin, such as the eucalyptus fibre used in Cora Happywear bodysuits, which are also enriched by fun prints, all strictly water-based.
It is important that the person accompanying you finds the bag immediately and gives it to the midwives so that they can dress your baby without wasting time (or patience). Write your name and your baby's name on the bag to make sure that it is not accidentally mixed up in the nursery.
